Change

It is often said that, only change has no change. Well it is a confusing statement but the idea is clear. It is an interesting point in world history. Arab spring, protest against corruption in India and Pakistan, even in USA people are protesting against government. I don't know what made people think of governments all of a sudden. The preconceived notions of a government has been evolving and changing over time in developed countries and in developing countries such as in India and Brazil.

People protesting against government is nothing new, but the new cry for completely revamping the governmental system is phenomenal. The power of this movement can be seen in the light of protest in Israel and the dissidence between the people and the ruling elite. It would be interesting to watch how these grass root movements evolve over the years. By the way I have to add that the Tea Party movement in US is completely ridiculous. Completely stripping government of its powers, completely deregulating the economy is as silly as running around naked.

Anti - Corruption The Anna Hazare Movement

Its interesting that we haven't had any discussion about Anna Hazare. There might be people supporting his course of action also against. However the stark truth is that corruption is rampant in our country. It has reached to a point where we ourselves feel obliged to give money (bribe) for public services such as policing and government administration. We feel its ok and therefore it is a real dangerous condition. A condition where general public becomes so used to corruption that they forget its very existence.
It is interesting to see the new Forbes list of Indian billionaires. We proud Indians would boast that we are doing well economically and producing billionaires. The truth is far from it. Almost all the new billionaires have political connections and are related to mining or real estate. Both require nothing related to innovation or technology. You or I with enough political connection can get a mining license in the heart of a reserved forest, mining rights in poor villages by illegally displacing them with muscle power or buy out public property for pittance. For reference check the new Forbes list of Indian billionaires.
I neither support nor reject Anna Hazare. A radical change in a democratic country would often do harm than good. However I support the cause he put forwards. As the younger generation in a vibrant country we believe in different political ideologies. As a senior politician Man Mohan Singh most probably is not corrupt. However to stay in power his coalition government has to turn a blind eye to regional politicians, many of whom are completely corrupt. The same is true with BJP LK Advani and Communist party. These people irrespective of the party are forced to deal with corrupt politicians because these corrupt lots are elected by the very people aka general public who criticize corruption.
So here I put forth my humble opinion. We have the right to cast votes, so please don’t misuse that scared right by electing a person, just because he belongs to the party we supposedly support. In a recent survey conducted in India (by Dept of Political Affairs, UN), hardly 15% of the general population really knows what politics is, what democratic process is and the reason they support a political party. Many participants of the survey believed that their political party stood for X, Y, Z thing, whereas the truth was X, Y, Z was never ever even an agenda for that political party. Such is our ignorance.
Next time when you head for the polling station elect the corruption free, scandal free (so to speak, least corrupted) official, irrespective of cast, religion, political affiliation. This in my opinion would definitely bring about positive changes in our country. Remember our two trillion dollar economy would have been a six trillion dollar economy had it not been for the corruption. Those four additional trillion would have meant better road, better healthcare system, better wages…hell our normal starting salaries would have been RS 60,000.
